Chapter 20

Piper’s heart did a professional tap dance in her chest, mocking her as she stared at a brown spot on the pink walls. It resembled a wolf. How interesting… Okay not really. She’d find anything interesting enough to not stare at them.

Tate cleared his throat. “Piper, why are you so flushed?” when she didn’t answer, he asked another question, “What are you looking at?”

“Nothing, I just…”

“What, Pipes?” Storm asked, his voice revealing his concern, since she still didn’t want to meet their gazes.

Will you stop making us look ridiculous? We do not have to sleep with them. But it would be so much fun.

“Shut up.”

Storm’s face dropped. “What? We just want to know if you’re okay.”

“Oh, I didn’t mean to say that out loud.” That didn’t help him feel better, as he flinched slightly. “No, really, I wasn’t talking to you guys.”

Shit…

All three of their intense eyes focused on her, confused and curious. Finally, Rockie was the one that asked, “Then who were you talking to?”

Damn it on toast.

You already said it, spill the beans. They will understand. Her inner voice said with a little chuckle.

Yeah. I’m going to end up in a padded room.

Piper licked her lips. “Well, um, I kinda have a voice in my head… It’s not scary or creepy, though. It’s more like intuition.”

“Wait, so is it an actual voice or intuition?” Storm asked.

She was biting her lip now. “I have never told anyone this but,” she scuffed her foot on the floor, “it’s more like a person speaking to me.”

Tate’s green eyes widened, “Does she know a lot about your werewolf side?”

The question took Piper by surprise. Where was the laughter or screaming that she was crazy? She squirmed under his stare.

She scuffed her foot on the crappy carpet. Why did she feel like a child in trouble? “I—yes. She said the knowledge exchange thing gave her the information she needed.”

More silence and gaping mouths. “What?”

Tate shook his head. “I’m sorry for my reaction. What you're describing sounds a lot like your wolf.”

“What? That can’t be. I’ve always had her in my mind. Well, as long as I can remember anyway.” Piper needed to sit down. She stumbled over to the head of the bed, grabbed a pillow, and hugged it to her chest. That couldn’t be right.

“That’s a trait of a full-blood werewolf. My voice started after puberty. He’s like another person inside of me, telling me what to do and butting into everything. He has his own opinion and thinks he knows it all.” He thumped his temples and smiled. “Oh, he didn’t like that.”

Piper couldn’t help but smile back. “That sounds a lot like my voice.”

Hey! Not funny.

You know it is a little. The voice grunted her dislike. Is what they are saying true? Are you my wolf?

Yes.

So, I’ve had a wolf this whole time? Why didn’t you ever say anything?

The voice…um… wolf was silent.

“Are you speaking to her?” Rockie asked. Now all three of them were sitting on the bed. Storm put his hand on her knee, giving her comfort.
